Phanette, the Winemaker at the Estate

DSTN1265.jpg

In 2004, Phanette Double, a graduate in engineering and oenology, joined Beaupré and the world of wine.

Her first cuvée in 2005 was an opportunity to bring a fresh perspective to production and develop the wines with greater precision. She gradually made her mark and converted the vineyard to organic farming, obtaining certification eight years later in 2013.

This environmental commitment is gradually expanding with agroforestry projects to preserve and sustain Beaupré's natural setting, one example being a natural hedge of 500 plants and shrubs planted in 2023 that connects the vineyard plots. Phanette is also mindful of the inputs used; all products used on the vineyard are natural, including LiFoFer, a fermented forest litter, custom-made at the estate, which promotes the multiplication of microorganisms.

In 2024, Phanette celebrated her 20th anniversary as a winemaker in Beaupré, and to mark this milestone, she created a new collection of wines labeled “Façon Phanette,” which allow her to give free rein to her inspiration and spontaneity.

Our philosophy

The estate covers

130 hectares, including 43 hectares of vineyards. It is essential for us to preserve this treasure trove of precious resources. Vegetation, wildlife, soil, and a diversity of natural elements make up the natural life that exists and continues to thrive on our land.

Phanette, a winemaker in Beaupré for 20 years, works with her team to ensure the sustainability of each parcel. The parcels used for vines are grassed, and plant cover has been put in place to promote soil humidity. Parcels not used for vines are cultivated in other ways, notably with wheat plants, to ensure continuous and sustainable soil life.

The overall objective of the actions implemented specifically for each natural element is to establish and contribute to a virtuous circle in the interdependent relationships that exist between them. This means taking nature into account above all else, in its entirety. Adapting our working methods to nature, not the other way around.

In 2013, Phanette Double converted the entire estate to organic farming. Work in the vineyards and in the cellar is carried out in a respectful and eco-responsible manner. This has been a key part of the winemaker's work for 20 years. All choices and future projects are guided by this desire to work towards the sustainability of the estate as a whole.

In 2023, a new tool was developed at Beaupré: LiFoFer, or Fermented Forest Litter, a real gem for organic multiplication in our soils. It is composed of forest soil samples, combined with natural agricultural products and water. It promotes soil life, germination, better water retention, the development of microelements, and more.

Concerned about hydrology and committed to permaculture and agroforestry, Phanette wants to focus more on these methods.

During the winter of 2023, 500 plants and shrubs were planted to form a hedge between our vineyard plots. The aim is to connect the soils, vegetate the vineyard plots, provide them with material for water retention, and promote humidity. Water, soil, and plants form an essential triangle of life, which, once again, are interdependent in their development.
