Situated 12km to the west of Aix-en-Provence, set in a vast, 100 hectare forest, the Château de Beaupré, with its open prairies and dazzling pool, is your classic "Bastide Aixoise", or Provençal country house. It boasts a magnificent landscaped park, planted with avenues of century-old plane trees, and a fountain ‘aux 4 dauphins’ accredited to the school of renowned sculptor Toro.

In 1909, a terrible earthquake shook the Aix region. It took 30 lives in the next door village, Saint Cannat. At Beaupré, the second floor of the Château collapsed.

Baron Emile Double rebuilt it, taking away a bit of its Provençal character but without detracting in the slightest from its majestic and imposing stature that exists to this day.
